Attention all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters…Have you been waiting to take the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) class because of your busy schedule? Well, the Piedmont Council Training Committee and the Gemstone District Training Committee invites you to participate in special IOLS class, a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors, focusing on basic Scout skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. This class will have a modified content allowing it to be taught in a single day without the overnight camping component! Come join the fun at the Troop 609 Scout Hut/Pavilion in Statesville, NC on Saturday October 17, 2020 from 8:00am to 6:15pm.
Cost of this course: $10 and you will need to bring your own lunch and a comfy chair.
Instructors will help you learn about outdoor ethics and setting up camp, cooking, working with woods tools and ropes, planning campfire programs, using a map and compass, hiking and packing techniques, and nature identification. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Scouts BSA Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth you serve. We hope to increase your comfort level in the great outdoors and help you find more confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from your area and meet new friends.
For Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to be considered “trained to position,” you must complete Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training, Hazardous Weather Training, and IOLS. Please ensure your Youth Protection Training is current and won’t expire before your unit recharters. Links for these are below.
