Piedmont Council International Programs
International Scouting in the Piedmont Council is organized and led by the International Committee. The International Committee relies on a very dynamic, dedicated, and diverse group of volunteers and professional Scouters to bring World Scouting to the Piedmont Council.
The Piedmont Council International Committee:
- Is the Council liaison to the World Organization of the Scouting Movement (WOSM) through the BSA’s International Division in Irvine, Texas.
- Encourages world friendship within our Council by promoting contact with foreign Scouting units
- Offers programs that educate our Scouts about WOSM, its programs, history, and future.
PANGEA Model United Nations
The International Committee and Exploring program, along with the Hickory International Council and Lenoir-Rhyne University sponsors the PANGEA Model United Nations Conference each Spring in early March.
PANGEA Model UN provides a fun way for young people to learn about the world, practice leadership and public speaking skills, and discover possible careers. For more information, visit: pangeamun.org
Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) and Jamboree-On-The-Internet (JOTI)
JOTA and JOTI are held annually on the third weekend of October. Scouts around the world use amateur radio and the Internet to link together for fun fellowship. All Scouts may participate—Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers.
World Friendship Fund
Please remember Scouts around the world in need at your Camporees. Take up a collection and send World Friendship Fund donations to the Council office. Half of your donation will go to the Piedmont Council International Committee to bring an International Scout to Camp Bud Schiele. The balance will be sent to the World Friendship Fund at in your District’s name.
International Scout at Summer Camp
Fantastic international Scouts come each summer and serve on staff at the Piedmont Council Summer Camp at Camp Bud Schiele. It’s a great program that brings a world perspective of Scouting to every Summer Camper.
Through WOSM, BSA Scouts are invited to events in different countries around the world. BSA Scouts and adults have excellent opportunities to learn about the world and other cultures by traveling as part of an international contingent.
The 24th World Scout Jamboree will be held at The Summit in West Virginia on Monday, July 22, 2019 and run through Friday, August 2, 2019. This world Scout jamboree is special because it’s a team effort. It’s hosted by Scouts Canada, Asociación de Scouts de México, and the Boy Scouts of America. More Information
