Council Diversity Day
Join us for the 2023 Diversity Day!
Diversity Day is a day to celebrate and embrace who we are with equity and inclusion. Regardless of our differences, no matter what race, religion, gender, age, nationality, or disability, this is a day to reflect on and learn about different cultures and ideologies.
The objective of Diversity Day is to showcase a spectrum of scouting skills and experiences that will bring various cultures, and backgrounds together and celebrate their stories. After the success of the inaugural event in February of 2022, it was decided to continue this community strengthening event in 2023. We are excited to share that First Baptist Church has again agreed to host, partner, and sponsor the event again this year.
All Scouts are welcome and encouraged to participate! Also, we will have Explorers, Venturers and Order of the Arrow members present too! Last year showcased wonderful performances of Native American and Latin American dancers, African drums, mallet making, interactive bounceable inflatable games, Cub Scout appropriate shooting sports- Archery, BB guns, Slingshots and Rockets. Also, arts and crafts, food trucks, and bands. We aim for this year to be just as memorable!
There will be Cub Scout Advancement components with instructional training stations for: knots, lashing, pitching tents, outdoor cooking preparation, scout sign-up, and scout purchases. The instructional training stations will be a “show and tell” communication exercise to share the scouts’ experiences, while including props (items built at summer camp woodworking or metal shop) and gear used in scouting. Also, there will be some other technology related vocational models and sporting activities. We will have city police, firefighters and EMT onsite too.
These will surely interest prospective scouts and it will get them interested in the opportunities they will have in scouting. Plan to join us Saturday, April 29th from 10am-2pm for Diversity Day!
