Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills
What: IOLS and OWL Training
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills is a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class.
Outdoor Leader Skills for Webelos Leaders training is designed to help leaders learn how to provide a memorable camping experience for their Webelos Scouts and parents or guardians.
When: Friday, November 10, 2017 – 6:00 PM through Sunday, November 12, 2017, 1:00 PM. It is recommended that you eat before you come, we will have some light pick-ups to enjoy together on Friday night, and leave after lunch Sunday (possibly before, if completed early and if you traveled a long way).
Where: Cub Camp/Training Center; Piedmont Scout Reservation, Rutherfordton, NC (beside Camp Bud Shiele)- Akela Pavilion at the top of the hill. Park in the parking lot and bring your stuff with you.
Why: Because IOLS, along with Youth Protection Training and Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Position Specific Training, is what it takes to be a “Trained.” OWL is not mandatory for Webelos leaders, but is highly recommended.
And: Because there is very little difference between the two courses, Webelos leaders will receive certification in both. (You will receive the Webelos part.)
What you need: You will be camping for the 2 nights we are there so you will need camping gear (Tent, sleeping bag, flashlight etc.) You will be close to your vehicle so you do not have to worry about weight. Bring food and snacks and if you would like to cook, bring your supplies and food for that, but we will be busy, so keep that in mind. Bring pencil/pen and paper and a scout handbook is highly recommended as that is the reference material we will use. Once I get a list of how many we will have, I will send out more detailed information.
